A Tail Inspired by Chanel

This woman was dressed up for Saturday Services in her black coat, plaid skirt and adorable pug pins. She told me that she had two pugs at home named Sammy and Boy Capel. Her daughter brought the dogs home and told her that they were named Rory and Sammy. She quickly interjected and announced that Rory would be renamed Boy Capel, after Coco Chanel's lover who died in a car accident. She was in the middle of reading a Chanel biography, which inspired the naming of her adorable puppy and her classic fashion sense as well.

"Images and Insights"

I met Irene on the bus the other day. She was seated wearing all purple and looking absolutely stunning. I could tell she saw me looking at her from the corner of my eye, so I got up to talk to her. We talked for a moment and I could tell that she had so much to say about life and style. Well Dressed Gentelmen

[Action Shot shot by MISTER MORT]

I take a lot of photos of stylish older women in New York, but I definitely see some wonderfully dressed gentleman as well. My buddy Mister Mort is the true expert at getting shots of stylish fellows. The other day I took a photo of a man in a Borsalino hat. He asked me if I shoot on Park Avenue because, seven years ago he was approached by a guy asking to take photos of guys in hats. I am certain that this must have been MISTER MORT, the only other dude to snap shots of older ladies and gentleman that I know. We used to go photo hunting together before he moved out west and he continues to captures great style, like the fellow above.

I also wanted to let you know that I started an Advanced Style Forum for us all to continue our conversations about life, style, and aging. Click the link below to check it out and participate and don't forget to REGISTER. I can't wait to hear all of your thoughts! You can also find the link on the sidebar.

Eva Deutsch Costabel

Meeting artist Eva Deutsch Costabel was truly an amazing and inspiring experience. She has lived and worked in New York for 57 years, after surviving the Holocaust and fleeing for her life for several years. She arrived in New York in 1949 and worked under artist Franz Kline. During this time she created deeply personal abstract paintings informed by her emotional journey.

Eva told me, " Living in New York you must be educated. I don't have many prejudices, but Boring I can't stand." She considers herself a colorist choosing to eat and dress in the colors that fill her wonderful works of art. My short visit with her could not do her story justice. For more on Eva's amazing journey check out her website and blog

Balenciaga: Spanish Master Exhibition Preview

Today Debra and I went to preview the Balenciaga: Spanish Master exhibition held at the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute in New York. The show which opens tomorrow features more than 70 items of Cristobal Balenciaga curated by Hamish Bowles. Designer, Oscar de la Renta conceived of the show which is the first to consider the impact of Spain's culture, history, and art on the legendary Critsobal Balenciaga.

I took Debra to the exhibit with me because I knew she'd appreciation the beautiful display and scultural forms. She told me that she first saw Balenciaga's work as a child on TV. His designs and colors were immediately inspiring to her. Even if you can't afford to buy designer clothing you can be inspired by their artistry. It is the artful quality and expressive power of style that Debra and I relate to. Check out the great clip below to see some Vintage Balenciaga designs similar to those in the exhibition.

A Chance Meeting With Henny Garfunkel

A while back, Kim Hastreiter of Paper Magazine told me that I had to meet her friend Henny Garfunkel. She knew that we shared a passion for photographing fabulous old ladies and thought we would hit it off. Henny and I emailed back and forth, but never had the chance to meet.

Yesterday while walking down Park Avenue I saw an amazing woman pass by and I had to ask her for a photo. I stopped to tell her that I photograph stylish and creative people over 50 and she instantly began to smile. She said," I know who you are, my friend Kim wanted us to meet some time ago." What a wonderful chance encounter, to meet someone whose work I so admire. Henny and I both photograph people that we encounter on the street, making this all this meeting all the more special. Her series of "Fab Old Ladies" can be found on her website: .

Check out this small clip of Henny applying her lipstick by film maker Eric Smith. Eric also made one of my favorite shorts, Irene Williams: Queen of Lincoln Road, which you can also check out below!

Over 50 Blogger Spotlight:Mispapelicos

Personal style blogs aren't just for the young, in fact their is a whole world of over 50 bloggers, proving that personal style really does advance with age. These women have the experience to know what they feel comfortable in the willingness to share their treasured style secrets withthe rest of the world. I asked Sacramento from for her fashion and style tips. Check out our interview below:

How do you feel age affects fashion?
To me age is just a number, and shouldn't´t affect your own style at all.

What is your style advice for older women stuck in a rut?
-Get rid of the comfy pants and t-shirt, they are a deadly trap…
-Look at yourself in the mirror, cherish the way you look, and build from there.
- Be daring rather than boring.-
-Every woman knows what suits her and what type of clothes makes her feel wonderful. Most of the time, they cannot be bothered.-
-It is never too late to find your own style. Look deep within and let it come out freely.

Can you share any of your style secrets?
I always dress for myself, and to inspire those who cross my path.

-I would like to think that my style is quirky rather than smart; with the knowledge to distinguish the thin line between quirky and clown.

Sacramento in her own words:
I am An English- Spanish teacher and Nutritionist who has been madly in love with fashion all her life.I see fashion as a means of self expression through clothes.
I have been keeping notes and cut-outs in notebooks, (that´s why the name of my blog: MIS PAPELICOS - my little papers or cut-outs) for as long as I can remember.
Last 7Th of April , I decided to go a step forward by starting my own blog.
